What YOU want to see
That is what the people on the street told the Standard when we asked for people’s thoughts on the town centre.
“We come for the market mainly but we have a look around the shops and Marshall’s Yard too,” said Audrey Freeman from Scawby near Brigg.

Hide AdShe was shopping with husband David who trained at Rose’s in Gainsborough when he was younger.
“Many years ago the town needed a lot of alteration, and it’s got that now,” he said.
“Now there are more shops here than in Scunthorpe. It’s all pound shops and charity shops there now.”
Audrey said: “Marshall’s Yard are obviously drawing in the big companies but there are smaller independent businesses moving there too.”

Joan Garbutt, 66, of Tooley Street, Gainsborough, said Primark would be a welcome addition to the town.
“The town centre is getting ridiculous with empty shops, too many hairdressers and takeaways,” she said.
“The council needs to stop approving new developments and start using the old empty buildings that are so unsightly.”

Hide AdEve Barksby, 21, of Tower Street, Gainsborough, said more menswear, womenswear and maternity shops were needed.
“Some nice restaurants instead of cafes would be nice too,” she said.
“And there’s nowhere nice to go at night time. It can be like a ghost town.”
