A perfect panto

Yet again, Sheffield Theatres and Evolution Pantomimes have produced a truly brilliant show, with everything you’d expect from panto and much more.

The undoubted star of the last few years has been ‘dame’ Damian Williams, and although he was out of the dress for Cinderella, he was still incredible.

Playing Buttons, the best mate and secret admirer of Cinders, Williams had the audience in stitches, with plenty of references to previous years performances, boasts of ‘all new jokes’ and his now famous Sheffield landmark scene.

The 2012 dame role was shared by the ugly sisters, Lyceema and Crucibella, played by Ian Smith and Michael J. Batchelor.

Stomping around in increasingly garish and elaborate customes, the duo baited the crowd and picked on one particularly unlucky male audience member with glee.

CBeebies star Ben Faulks did well in the role of Dandini, Prince Charming’s aid, but he, Charming (Jonathan Ansell) and Cinders (Kate Quinnell) took somewhat of a back seat, as Williams, the dames and effervescent Fairy Godmother Sue Devaney stole the show.

Both lead stars Ansell and Quinnell did showcase impressive voices, and there were nice modern twists with references to recent Youtube hits and the 2012 Olympics.

Well done writer and director Paul Hendy, another fantastic production is behind you.
