Alford Silver Band in free concert

ALFORD Silver Band is set to perform its latest free concert in Alford this Saturday

The Corn Exchange in the town’s Market Place will host the event from 7.30pm.

“This is a tradition of the band,” said band chairman Martin Briggs. “It’s our way of thanking the town for all the support it gives us throughout the year.”

In what promises to be a great evening of entertainment, musical director Steve Walker will lead the band in another high quality musical performance, showing off the band’s talents through a greatly varied programme, supplemented by his usual quick wit and humour.

The evening also gives the band the opportunity to recognise publicly the achievements of several of its musicians through the presentation of various awards.

Although entrance to the concert is free, there will be the opportunity for the audience to show its appreciation of the band through the purchase of raffle tickets on the night, and through a retiring collection after the show.

This will be the culmination of an important week for the band. Tomorrow (Thursday) the band will be holding its annual general meeting in the band room at the rear of Alford Foodstore (Millers Way) starting at 7.30pm.

Although only subscribing members of the band may vote on resolutions, the meeting is open to the general public.

“This will be one of the most important AGMs of recent years,” commented Martin. “We will be asking the meeting whether or not we should seek to become a Registered Charity. We are hoping therefore for a good attendance.”
