Artwork to be auctioned at Remembrance Ball

A Louth-based artist and gallery owner has created and donated a special original painting to be auctioned off for this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Samantha Woodward is an artist and owner of The Corner of Creations, an independent art studio and gallery on Northgate, Louth.

She recently completed a special original painting, titled Halo of Remembrance, which she has donated to the Flanders Friends Remembrance Ball, organised by the Mablethorpe-based community group Flanders Friends.

The artwork will be auctioned at their Remembrance Ball on Saturday November 7.

The painting features a lone soldier, a ghostly white horse, raised red poppies, shadowed barbed wire and a striking textured gold-leaf halo. Each element represents remembrance, sacrifice and those who never returned home.

Samantha said: “This has been a particularly meaningful piece for me to create. I wanted to produce something that not only looked beautiful but encouraged people to stop, reflect and remember those who fought for our freedom.

“What has been especially touching is that customers visiting my Louth gallery have already started placing bids, even before the painting has reached the auction.”

The original artwork has now been completed and professionally framed, with a Certificate of Authenticity ready for its future owner.

Samantha said: “I'm incredibly proud to support a local community group through my artwork, and I hope the painting raises a wonderful amount on the evening.”

Earlier this year Samantha donated a limited edition print of her artwork, Break Free Elephant, to Ward 6B at Boston Hospital.

Created during an especially emotional timewhile she was preparing for her mother’s funeral following her battle with cancer, the artwork has since been exhibited in London before finding its home on the ward, where she hopes it brings a little comfort to patients, families, and staff, having herself worked on the ward for eight months as a health care worker in 2025.

She painted the elephant in July - September 2023 and it was displayed at the Holyart exhibition in London December 2023.
