Gallery volunteers put on their own exhibition of artwork

A group of volunteers in Sleaford have launched their own exhibition of art work in the gallery they help to run.

The Carre Gallery was opened in Carre Street in 2010 as a result of collaboration between a local businessman and the late Windham Hime, a professional artist and photographer.

It is now operated by the Sleaford Gallery Arts Trust, a registered charity.

The gallery is operated and managed totally by volunteers and five of them have got together to display around 40 pieces of their work in a variety of formats oils, acrylics, watercolour and others including some fascinatingly detailed watercolour pieces on motor racing and aircraft, as well as scenes of rural life, abstract, some inspired by Picasso and Crete and even a cave painting!

The exhibition runs for two weeks and held a launch evening on Thursday, October 15 when the Mayor of Sleaford, Coun Dave Darmon was in attendance.

Lisa Price, one of the volunteers exhibiting, said the exhibition is aimed at generating more interest in the gallery. “Local galleries are closing all the time - we want to keep this one going!” she said.

"Not all the volunteers are artists.

"We want to get the gallery noticed again after a quiet spell and some volunteers have moved away. We have about 12 volunteers, so more volunteers are always welcome.”

Designed to support Lincolnshire art, artists can hire out the space for their own displays
