Running until September 12, the show features works by the current members, archive materials and a few works by founder member, Harry Gregson, a former art teacher at Carre’s Grammar School. Sleaford Art Group was started in 1956 and around 15 artists’ work was on display featuring a mixture of styles, mediums and subject matter.
Guests could also inspect a display of old archive newspaper clippings about the group from the Sleaford Standard, including pictures of their fancy dress social evenings, and there was also a number of Harry’s life and figure drawings.
Mary Newman, a long-time member of the group who is also involved in the running of the gallery, displayed some of her designs for sets and backdrops used by Sleaford Little Theatre and Heckington Players in their stage shows over the years too.
She said: “Since 2005 I have designed and then painted, with friends, 27 plays, 22 pantomimes and two murals.”
