Aviation museum set for special day

The popular local museum is set to hold a Special Access Photography Event on Saturday, March 17.

Budding photographers will get the chance to create spectacular atmospheric shots, including the site’s Lancaster bomber at dusk and lit-up at night.

“This is the only place in Europe where you can get this opportunity with an Avro Lancaster,” said a spokesperson.

“This is our first year with this event and it is an attempt to enable all those of you who are amateur, professional and budding photographers to get a lot of photos at the centre that you have tried to get but someone has always got in the way.

“We will bring out some of our collection for daytime, dusk and evening photograph opportunities and if we get enough visitors buying the pre-event tickets we may even give you an evening engine run of the Lancaster!”

The museum will be open from 10am to 4pm but the photographic event tickets will allow you access to the centre throughout the day, and the special access will be available from mid-afternoon through to 8pm.

The photographic opportunities which the centre plans to provide include the Lancaster at daytime, dusk and lit-up at night, views of the cockpit from an external platform and the control tower illuminated in the dark.

Other potential shots include high-level photographs of the Lancaster from a platform, photos of the Lancaster, crew bus and bombing up scenario and WW2 aircrew and ground crew re-enactors.

“If anyone has any other ideas for photos please let us know,” continued the spokesperson.
