Samantha Lee Howe has joined actor and presenter Peter Duncan and presenter Lorraine Kelly as patrons of POhWER, a charity which helps marginalised, vulnerable and socially excluded people through advocacy support, information and advice.

Samantha began her writing career in 2007. In that time, she has written over 29 stories, 40 short novels and two screenplays.

Her debut psychological thriller, The Stranger In Our Bed, was released in early 2020. The book quickly became a USA Today bestseller, and rights for the film version were subsequently bought by production company, Buffalo Dragon and is due hit the big screen in the summer of 2021.

She has since secured a book deal for her three-part spy thriller series, The House of Killers.

As well as supporting various charities and social movements, Samantha is passionate about upholding and protecting the rights of individuals who either cannot speak for themselves, or struggle to have their voices heard.

The charity’s chief executive Helen Moulinos said she was the perfect fit: “POhWER has an incredible story behind it, having been founded in 1996 by a group of people living with disabilities who were struggling to overcome the social injustices they faced as a result.

“We’ve gone from that, to becoming a national charity that has supported over 270,000 people in the seven months since the pandemic started alone - each of whom were struggling to navigate the health and social care system.”

Helen said: “I can’t wait to work closely with her to amplify our mission and celebrate POhWER’s work.

“Hopefully, thriller fans everywhere will soon get to know POhWER through Samantha’s patronage.”

Samantha was proud to become a patron: “The work that Helen, the leadership team, and all of the advocates do is inspiring and I look forward to helping them spread the word about the great services they provide.”
