Cycling stunts and marathon pedal power

During the summer break, the library at Ancaster Primary School will be relocated to a different space within the school and the front entrance will be remodelled.

The main front doors will be repositioned meaning that a new room can be created to make way for the library.

Headteacher Sam Eden said: “The children are all very excited about the prospect of a new library space that is better than ever.

“We are now focusing all our fundraising around this redevelopment and all money raised from events will go towards providing the best library space possible for the children of Ancaster.”

The school ran a fundraising challenge, called Pedal Power, on Friday which saw pupils (and adults) cycling the distance to the British Library in London and back as many times as they could as part of a Festival of Cycling with lots of activities during the day. They managed to bike 400 miles collectively. The child with the most sponsors won a bike from Dr Bike.

In the afternoon stuntman Danny Butler visited to give an action-packed demonstration of his cycling tricks.

First thing in the morning children cycling to school took part in a Biker Breakfast and the school launched a competition called ‘Crazy Crash Hats’. This was an opportunity for children to decorate their cycle helmets and parade them. The helmets were decorated around the theme of books, with prizes for the best Crazy Crash Hats on the day.

The school was presented with a Silver ‘Bike It’ Award from Sustrans, the cycling promotion charity, for the total distance cycled and scooted by pupils to and from school during the year.
