Elicia impresses judge at festival

During the opening morning of the festival, which opened on Monday at St. John’s Church in Brigg, she delighted the adjudicator Elizabeth Childs with her cello playing of the test pieces, ‘A Little Reverie’ by Adam Carse and Two Short Pieces by Stainer and Bell in Classes 127 for string players of 10 years and under.

She followed that with a win in Class 127a where she chose her own pieces.

So impressed was the adjudicator, she awarded Elicia 90 marks and said: “Wow-what a beautiful sound.”

“This was lovely playing all the way through-with a lovely bowing arm.

“It was brilliant; mind blowing for someone of your age. There was a wonderful richness about it.”

Grasby All Saints Primary School pupils were out in force to make their mark as well.

As the Town Hall clock struck 9am, there were four pupils, all from Grasby, on stage for Class 135, the Solo Descant Recorder for Children 9 years and under.

And it was a repeat for Class 133a for seven-year-olds also playing recorder.

Winner of the first class was Grace Schofield, who was praised by Mrs Childs, who said: “You had a lovely tone in your playing and a very good steady rhythm.”

Daisy Williams was another Grasby winner with her solo descant recorder playing, described as having ‘lovely colour and tone.’

Drama follows next week, starting Monday March 31, and lasts until Wednesday April 2.
