Free tickets up for grabs at cinemas in Mablethorpe and Woodhall Spa
Independent cinemas in Mablethorpe and Woodhall Spa are offering free tickets to see a BAFTA-nominated film this week.
The Loewen Cinema, on Quebec Road in Mablethorpe, and Kinema In The Woods, on Coronation Road in Woodhall Spa, are taking part in a nationwide initiative called Escapes, which is designed to make movie-going more accessible to all.
The initiative, run by the British Film Institute charity and supported by National Lottery funding, "provides an opportunity for new and returning audiences to discover the magic of cinema”.
More than 130 independent cinemas are taking part today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday), hosting a free screening of ‘Wasteman’, the award-winning British prison thriller, before its general release.

Starring acclaimed actors David Jonsson, Tom Blyth and Alex Hassell, as well as R&B artiste Ray BLK, ‘Wasteman’ brutally depicts the state of UK prisons. The issues of drugs, gangs, overcrowding, riots and ruthless violence pulsate through the film.
The story follows prisoner Taylor who is approaching parole and wants nothing more than to be a dad to his son who he has never met.
While inside, he has so far kept out of trouble. However, when new cellmate Dee arrives, the chance for Taylor to get his life back on track is put in jeopardy.
‘Wasteman’ is the debut film from director Cal McMau, who won the best debut director accolade at the British Independent Film Awards 2025.
McMau says he was inspired to make the 89-minute movie by footage from mobile phones that prisoners had smuggled inside.
He says: “When I discovered all this mobile-phone footage that was coming out of prisons, it was like a portal into another world.
"It was raw, unfiltered and terrifying – a visceral view of a world that felt more alien than any prison depiction I’d encountered before.
"I saw not only desperation but also the brutal truth of a system failing those it was supposed to rehabilitate, fostering an environment where re-offending was almost inevitable.”
If you would like to grab a free ticket to see the film at Mablethorpe and Woodhall Spa today or tomorrow, simply go to the Escapes website at www.escapetothecinema.co.uk and register.
The Savoy cinemas at Boston, Gainsborough and Grantham are also taking part in the free screening initiative.
