Gillian, who is best known for her role as Dana Scully in The X-Files, plays Blanche Dubois in a characterisation which won her the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Actress and a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for best actress.

As Blanche’s fragile world crumbles, she turns to her sister Stella (Vanessa Kirby) for solace – but her downward spiral brings her face to face with the

brutal, unforgiving Stanley Kowalski (Ben Foster).

This production of A Streetcar Named Desire was captured live at the Young Vic theatre in 2014 and remains the venue’s fastest-selling show.

Digital viewers can stream it for free on YouTube via the National Theatre At Home channel on Thursday, May 22, from 7pm and it will then be available on demand for seven days.
