Mark Perrin is taking part in the Prudential Ride event which will take him from London to Surrey in the hope of raising as much money as possible for charity WellChild.

On Sunday, July 31, Mark, with three other members of the ‘Folkingham Flyers’ bike group - Shane Barnes, David Blanchard and Steven Shea, will take on the six-hour challenge, beginning at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, through the stunning Surrey countryside, and finishing on The Mall in central London.

Along the route, made famous by cyclists at the 2012 Olympics, there will be leg testing climbs and challenging terrain.

Mark has always had a casual interest in cycling, but since joining the group last year, his interest has peaked.

Speaking about the challenge, Mark said: “I currently cycle at least three times a week, averaging 100 miles, and have really noticed the health and wellbeing benefits.”

“Not long after I joined the group, three members, also known as the ‘Middle-Aged Men in Lycra’, invited me to take part in Ride London-Surrey. I thought it would be a brilliant opportunity to raise money and awareness for the brilliant work that WellChild does, while also setting myself a challenge.”

“We’ve trained through harsh conditions; the bitter winter cold and torrential summer showers, and have clocked up 3,700 miles of training. I feel ready for race day now; although 100 miles still feels a long way to be sat on a saddle for.”
