Free exhibition for Lincoln School of Art

A free public exhibition will mark the 150th anniversary of a top Lincoln art school next week.

The Lincoln School of Art (LSA), now part of the University of Lincoln, was founded on February 2 1863 and was one of the first art schools of its kind in Britain, celebrated as a forward-thinking leader in art education.

To celebrate it’s rich history, there will be a week-long exhibition held at the University’s Greestone Building on Lindum Hill, showcasing the school’s 150-year timeline through a selection of artwork, ephemera and historical displays.

The showcase, entitled Lincoln School of Art: A Celebration of 150 Years, is open to the public from Monday to Thursday February 7 from 10am to 4pm, and 10am to 12pm on Friday 8, at the Greestone Building on Lindum Hill.

It will display historical photography and feature the local Lucas family, which had three generations attend the school.

A second exhibition, Past and Present: A Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Lincoln School of Art, will be held at The Usher Gallery from Saturday March 16, and will feature artwork from the Lincoln School of Art’s alumni. More details on this event to follow.

Dr Alec Shepley, Head of School of Art and Design at the University of Lincoln, said: “We are delighted to be able to commemorate 150 years of art provision in the city of Lincoln, and this exhibition is just the beginning of a programme of events to mark the work and achievements of our staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students and alumni.”
