First performing in Parish in 1841, Giselle was written by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Théophile Gautier , who based their plot on a prose piece by Heinrich Heine, and a poem called Fantômes in Les Orientales by Victor Hugo – the man most famous as the writer of Les Miserables.

The young peasant girl Giselle dies when she learns that the man she loves, Albrecht, has betrayed her.

Against her will, she joins the wilis, vengeful spirits who now turn against Albrecht and condemn him to dance until he dies of exhaustion.

Giselle is one of the oldest and greatest in the classical repertoire, touching upon the great romantic themes of a doomed love affair ending in tragedy, a dive into fantasy, and ultimate redemption through the power of love.

The Bolshoi is renowned for its intimate and emotionally intense interpretation of this beloved drama.

The piece is being streamed into Trinity Arts Centre live from Moscow on Sunday, October 11 at 4pm.

Tickets priced £15 and £13 are available now on 01427 676655 or www.trinityarts.co.uk
