Emma Woodhouse is pretty, clever and rich, with a comfortable home and happy disposition.

She’s also a bit of a meddler. After her governess is married to the kindly Mr Weston (at Emma’s instigation of course), Miss Woodhouse’s path in life is clear. She must become a matchmaker.

But as her interfering gets out of hand and events spiral beyond her control, it may be time for Emma to question her judgement.

Gently advised by childhood friend Mr Knightley, can Emma untangle the web she’s spun?

And what does she truly know of her own heart?

First published in 1815, Emma was the fourth novel Austen wrote and published during the last years of her life when she lived at Chawton.

Emma followed on from the equally successful Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park.

Hotbuckle were formed back in 2007 and started off by performing their own adaptation of another Jane Austen piece, Persuasion.

Since then, they have also performed other literary classics, including Les Miserables, David Copperfield, Great Expectations and Ballad of a Bird.

Their production of Emma is at Trinity Arts on Saturday, November 14 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £12 and £10 on 01427 676655 or www,trinityarts.co.uk
