His best-known books include Classroom Creature, It Takes One to Know One, The Day Our Teacher Went Batty and Family Phantoms

His stories and memories have led to him being dubbed ‘the James Herriot of schools.’

Gervase taught in a range of schools for 14 years before becoming an education adviser and school inspector.

Over the years he has made many TV and radio appearances on shows like Today, Book of the Week and A Book at Bedtime (all Radio 4) Calendar and The Des O’Connor Show (both ITV) and Breakfast (BBC1).
