Get your beers in for the 2016 Oktoberfest!

Sleaford and District Round Table is hoping to top 2015's fantastic fundraising figures at this year's Oktoberfest.

In its sixth year, the beer festival and family fun day are staged on Boston Road Recreation Ground on Friday (6pm-midnight) and Saturday (12noon to midnight).

This year proceeds go to Sleaford Community Minibus, and chairman Martin Osborne’s chosen charity - Autism Awareness.

Club treasurer Neil Freeman is co-ordinating efforts and said: “Each year it has grown and last year was our record, raising over £15,000 which went back to the community and local charities. We hope to beat that. Good weather helps and hopefully we can get lots of people out for the family fun day on Saturday.

“Last year we had just over 2,000 people attend over the two days and we are hoping to top that.”

The small team of 15 take nine months to organise it, getting barrel sponsorship with local businesses. Another 35 volunteers help over the weekend.

Neil explained the festival started out as part of the club’s annual ball but is now held separately. It was moved from October to get better weather and coincides with the beginning of Munich’s two-week Bavarian Oktoberfest.

They have 40 real ales, 19 ciders, four continental beers and a standard bar. There will be fairground attractions, food stands and 12 live acts including the Yorkshire Oompah Band.

During Saturday there will be free activities, such as arts, crafts and circus skills for the youngsters, trampolines, bouncy castles and a climbing wall. Admission per day is £3 adults, under 18s £2.
