Daredevil gravity-powered racers are returning to the cliff village on June 11 and 12 to test their skills and machines on the rapidly sloping downhill course.

Following the success of downhill racing in June 2014, over 30 soapboxes, sidecars and gravity bikes have signed up for 2016, to test their skills down the challenging Coleby Hill. The course was described by contestants as ‘one of the best in the country’ with racers reaching speeds in excess of 40mph.

One of the event organisers, Alan Vivian, said: “Downhill gravity racing is spectacular and breath-taking, coupled with the quality of this year’s competitors, the competition will be fierce and exciting.”

Timed practice goes on throughout Saturday June 11. The Downhill Challenge starts at 10am on Sunday June 12 with results and presentations, at 4pm (Timings subject to change).

The ‘Gravity Bike’ class is a new one for Coleby and will be Round 2 of the 2016 National Gravity Bike Championships.

There will be family entertainment all weekend with ice cream and hog roast, plus ample free parking and camping facilities in the village.

Sponsored by the village hall committee and Hykeham Lions, all proceeds raised go to LIVES, the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and other local charities. Find out more at www.coleby-downhill.co.uk
