Kids can go wild this half term across South Yorkshire

Why not let the kids go wild with a prickly project organised by the Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust?

The charity is holding ‘Wild Play’ events for families, with a spooky hedgehog theme.

“From bushcraft and firelighting activities to carving hedgehog-inspired pumpkins, our events are a great value way for children to learn about nature and have fun – and everyone is welcome,” said Jane Campbell, SRWT’s outdoor learning development officer. There is some explosive entertainment planned at Chatsworth. Explosive fire dancing; a glowing landscape of fiery sculptures; a stunning show by virtuoso circus artists and energetic street theatre performers make up the special entertainment next weekend.

Visitors to the ticketed event on October 31 and November 1 will experience a garden like no other with a sculptural scene of flame and foliage bathing the house in a glow. The audience will be invited to explore the Fire Garden where trees crackle and blaze, flame tipped bulrushes sway in the evening breeze and colossal lilies belch plumes of fire when least expected.

The entertainment gets underway upon arrival with a steel band, a pair of lost 17th century aristocrats causing mischief and fun and a New Orleans style brass band. On the South Lawn, there will be stunning high-impact fire dancing featuring skilful circus artistry and a jaw dropping human kaleidoscope.

Why not visit Kelham Island Museum, where, on Tuesday October 27, there will be a family trail and the chance to learn about Sheffield’s role in the First World War?

There will also be drop in art activities based on Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse story, 10.30am-12.30am and 1-3pm.

There is Disney magic, roaring dinosaurs and fairytales for all the family to enjoy at Cast in Doncaster running until the end of the month.

Go along to the Waterdale over the half term break for a week of free activities in the venue’s public spaces and there will also be magical performances in the main and second spaces with a perfect view for all. Go along to Poole’s Cavern in Buxton where there will be some spooky fun amongst the stalagmites, and visitors can see how many scary pumpkin heads they can find hidden in the cavern, treats (and tricks) for all.
