Based on William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, Kiss Me, Kate is a play-within-a-play where each cast member’s on stage life is complicated by what is happening offstage.

With Cole Porter’s music and lyrics, Kiss Me Kate is a hugely popular entry in the musical theatre world.

This is mainly because of Porter’s stunning, hit-filled score with numbers like Why Can’t You Behave?, So In Love Am I, Tom, Dick or Harry, Were Thine That Special Face, Too Darn Hot, Brush Up Your Shakespeare, I Hate Men, Always True to You (In My Fashion) and Another Op’nin’, Another Show.

Kiss Me Kate was the first show Porter wrote where the lyrics and music were firmly connected to the script and it proved to be his biggest hit.

It ran for more than 1,000 performances on Broadway and won the first Tony Award for Best Musical in 1949.

Maltby’s version opens on Monday (10th March) and runs until Saturday, 15th March.

Performances are at 7.15pm each evening.

Tickets priced £12 (£10 concessions on Monday only) are available now from the box office on 01709 823621.
