Known for his fingerstyle and hybrid picking technique, he has worked, both in the studio and on tour, with many famous musicians from a wide range of genres.

He has also maintained a solo career and is a noted composer and musical director.

He has worked with some of the world’s top artists, from Emmylou Harris to the Everly Brothers, Dolly Parton to the aforementioned Eric Clapton.

He took up the guitar in 1958 after becoming a fan of both Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly, and became a ‘guitar hero’ for his breakneck speed playing.

In 1971, Lee performed with Deep Purple’s keyboard player Jon Lord on the studio recording of Lord’s Gemini – the follow-up to Deep Purple’s Concerto for Group and Orchestra – after celebrated Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore decided not to be involved.

Lee was also responsible for the Everly Brothers’ 1983 reunion concert and was its musical director.

He played regularly with the Everlys for more than 20 years.

In November 2002, at Eric Clapton’s request, Albert appeared at the star-studded Memorial Concert for George Harrison at London’s Albert Hall and featured alongside Sheryl Crow and Vince Gill among others.

He was also at Eric Clapton’s 2007, 2010 and 2013 Crossroads guitar festivals.

He is also a member of Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, and fronted the band at the O2 arena on the night of the Led Zeppelin reunion concert.

Hogan’s Heroes was formed by Gerry Hogan over 20 years ago, specifically to back Albert.

Their first gig took place in 1987 at Gerry’s annual festival for pedal steel guitar.

Lee was nervous about fronting up the band when they first played together.

But the gig was successful and they now tour together on a regular basis.

And as a result of playing and touring together on a regular basis, they have become one of the tightest units in music.

They are at the Plowright Theatre on Sunday night (12th October) at 7.30pm.
