Lincs: Legendary singer Elkie is live in Lincoln

Now into the fifth decade of her career, Elkie Brooks is still proving to be one of the most powerful and versatile vocal talents of her generation.

With numerous hit singles, million-selling albums and awards, her annual tours are a treat for fans old and new.

Performing some of her classic hits, blues and jazz, an electric evening with Elkie is guaranteed to leave you begging for more.

She gained her biggest success in the late 1970s and 1980s and has been nominated twice for Brit Awards.

She is known for her powerful husky voice and hit singles such as Pearl’s a Singer, Lilac Wine, Don’t Cry Out Loud, Fool (If You Think It’s Over), and No More the Fool, and the top-selling album Pearls.

She is generally referred to as the ‘British queen of blues’.

By April 2012, she had released more albums that had reached the top 75 of the UK album chart than any other British female artist.

In the early years of her career, Elkie supported The Beatles at their Christmas show in London before helping The Small Faces establish their career by introducing them at several venues after she had become an established act in her right.

Her first solo album on was Rich Man’s Woman in 1975 before a run of 16 hit albums in 25 years was kicked-off by Two Days Away in 1977, which was produced by the songwriting duo Leiber & Stoller, who also worked with Elvis among others.

The hits Pearl’s a Singer and Sunshine After the Rain came from this album.

In 1980, she performed at the Knebworth Festival with The Beach Boys, Santana and Mike Oldfield before releasing Pearls a year later, from which Fool (If You Think It’s Over)was taken.

In early 1987 the song No More the Fool became her biggest hit single in the UK.

Elkie has toured almost every year during her solo career.

Her 1982 UK concert tour was seen by more than 140,000 people in just three months.

She has performed at every major UK theatre, including sell-out runs at the London Palladium, Dominion Theatre, Hammersmith Apollo, Ronnie Scott’s, Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Arena.

In 2012, she released her much-anticipated autobiography Finding My Voice and a re-release of her highly acclaimed album Powerless.

Her concert at Lincoln starts at 7.30pm.
