Taking on the role of the great German star will be Marina Laslo, herself an established singing star in her own right.

An icon of her time, Marlene Dietrich was adored by fans world-wide for her sultry vocals and smouldering performances on the silver screen.

She shot to international stardom in 1930 in the film The Blue Angel, and moved to Hollywood to embark on a dazzling film career.

Husky voiced and fair-haired, she mesmerised her audiences with her unique combination of exotic and extraordinary beauty and a sultry, almost challenging expression

In this brand new show her music is beautifully performed by the equally captivating Marina Laslo, whose rich and tender vocals will hypnotise audiences.

In this poignant year of remembrance Marina introduces Dietrich’s music to a whole new generation, as well as evoking memories for fans that followed the actress’ career.

The show marks the 40th anniversary since Dietrich’s last European tour and not only features a collection of classic tunes such as Falling in Love Again, Johnny, The Boys in the Back Room and Where Have All the Flowers Gone?, but presents various archive material and letters from Marlene Dietrich’s estate.

In her own right Marina Laslo is a recognised international performer.

Originally from Russia and now living in the UK, Marina’s ability to transcend music genres has allowed her to develop her art form.

Her vocals will not only grab the audience as they embark on an intimate journey with her rich storytelling but her evocative performance will captivate just as the Hollywood star’s did.

Marina’s career has encompassed a wide range of material from Mozart to musical theatre, from gypsy jazz to hip-hop.

She has played the Barbican, the Royal Festival hall and Ronnie Scott’s, achieving platinum record sales in her home country.

Marina’s beautiful voice has impressed the likes of Simon Cowell and International chef Jean-Christophe Novelli.

Inspired by a love of jazz, the glamour of the 1930s and the films of Marlene Dietrich, she is excited to bring a fresh perspective to the songs, in performing her tribute to Marlene and the music she made famous.

“Marlene was one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th Century on screen and stage, her husky vocals were unique and her performance was incredibly feminine,” said Marina.

“It’s quite a challenge to take on her songs, but to be believable you have to throw yourself into character and commit entirely to the lyrics and tell the story.

“I’m so looking forward to bringing Marlene Dietrich’s music to a whole new audience.”

“To quote Marlene’s final words in Touch Of Evil, it’ll be some kind of a show.”

Dietrich Letters will also showcase the best of young British jazz talent, under the direction of Rob Barron (Ronnie Scott’s All Stars).

The music is wonderfully nostalgic, and carries a distinct theatrical ambience.

Dietrich Letters is at the Plowright Theatre on Sunday night (7th June) at 7.30pm.
