As the original guitarist, singer and main songwriter in The Stranglers, Hugh Cornwell enjoyed massive success with 10 hit albums and 21 top 40 singles, etching himself into Europe and the USA’s musical psyche as the voice of such classic songs, as Peaches, No More Heroes, Golden Brown, Nice N’ Sleazy, Always the Sun and Duchess.

The Stranglers went on to become the highest-selling band to emerge from the British punk explosion during the 1970s.

Cornwell himself was at the front of the band for 16 years from 1974 until 1990 when he felt the band could go no further artistically and so he decided to leave.

Cornwell’s latest studio album Totem and Taboo was released to rave reviews.

Recorded at Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, the album was engineered and mixed by the legendary Steve Albini.

He is at the Plowright Theatre on 20th November.
