A quirky charity event which took place last year for Breast Cancer Now is to return this summer with more madcap racing action.

The Very Amazing Pink Ribbon Race will see participants once again donning fancy dress and racing in a variety of challenges.

This year’s event takes place on July 17, starting and finishing at Wyndham Park in Grantham. There will be a variety of distance options for participants, from 5k up to a half marathon for the serious runner. The main route will again take in the grounds of Belton House, covering about nine miles.

The event includes a series of fun challenges, and once again there will be pink Spacehopper racing in the park.

Organiser Sue Stannard, from Caythorpe, said: “Participants had a lot of fun last year, and I hope this year’s event will be bigger and better. I loved some of the fancy dress and hope we’ll get more of that as there will be a prize for the best. It can be a great day out for family and friends, not just for the ladies.”

She added: “Men get breast cancer, too, although the numbers for that are quite small, and of course so many of them see their wives, partners, mothers or friends go through treatment for this horrible disease. There are some extraordinary breakthroughs coming out of current research projects, many of them part-funded by Breast Cancer Now, and that is what makes me feel so passionately about supporting the charity.”
