After a roll call of ‘what gets you into a lather’ which seemed to be mainly the use of modern electrical equipment, Dr Hewis, a chemist, gave a lucid description of how to make soap by mixing oil or fat with alkali solution and fragrances.

The WI’s version was yellow ducks and green and blue hearts.
