Thea has had a very long and successful career but interestingly has only recently started enjoying mainstream success.

Indeed, in future editions of Trivial Pursuit, there is likely to be the question, ‘name the artists who finally made the UK Top 40 with her 14th album.

That answer, of course, is Thea Gilmore with 2013’s Regardless.

Radio 2 have proved great supporters recently as her profile has grown, with six of her songs ending up on the station’s A-list.

Her new single, Coming Back To You, is getting a great response and Radio 2 are already playing it, well ahead of putting it on their playlist.

And now, she is releasing her new album, Ghosts & Graffiti on 11th May and touring the UK to promote it.

The new album is is a compilation with its own twists – part new album, part retrospective.

Thea has included new songs alongside re-recorded versions from her 17-year career with a handful of impressive guest appearances including The Waterboys, Joan Baez, Billy Bragg, John Cooper Clarke, Joan As Policewoman, King Creosote and I Am Kloot.

People have asked me many times about a compilation, but I’ve always said no,” she said.

“I’m a bit of a ‘Best Of’ sceptic and I’ve never felt it was time to look back.”

“I always had new stuff I passionately wanted to get out there.”

“Then I realised last year that I wanted to bring new light to some older songs, colour, and the perspective that just living for a while affords.”

“I was so young when I wrote many of them, and I’ve come to see some of the early versions as no longer definitive.”

“I didn’t set out to make so many albums, there was no master plan.”

“I just had things to say so I found a way to say them.”

“Now I see every record as a snapshot of that particular time in my life.”

“I go back and listen to myself singing when I was 18 and it’s like a haunting.”

“The songs are the ghosts of my past.”
