The tour is in support of Simple Minds’ latest studio album Big Music, which was released towards the end of last year, along with the single Honest Town.

Big Music is the band’s first album release for five years and their 16th studio album overall.

The touring cast now sees frontman Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill joined by stalwart drummer Mel Gaynor, keyboardist Andy Gillespie, Ged Grimes, backing vocalists Sarah Brown and Catherine AD (additional keys and guitar).

Simple Minds formed back in 1977 and achieved commercial success in throughout the 1980s and early 1990s with a string of hit singles.

They are best known internationally for their 1985 hit Don’t You (Forget About Me) from the soundtrack of the John Hughes film The Breakfast Club.

Other songs like Waterfront, Belfast Child, This is Your Land, Kick It In and Love Song are also hugely popular with fans.

However, 1992 also brought the band to a new audience when their anthem, Alive and Kicking, was used by Sky Sports to promote their coverage of the newly-formed FA Premier League.

This brought Simple Minds to the attention to a whole new audience of the UK’s football fans.

Still as relevant as ever, last year they played live to more than 130,000 people.

Their Nottingham gig takes place on Sunday (3rd May).
