Open access thinking for Rasen golf club

While you still have to pay to play, practice facilities, the driving range and club house will be open to all.

“It is a new, foward-thinking way for us,” said house manager Pete Bray.

“We are hoping to create a more open and flexible approach to everyone in the community to use our facilities. We are open to everyone.

“We are trying to break down that barrier – lots of people think we are exclusive and so they have never been here – some town residents don’t even know we exist.

“We invite everyone to take a walk down Legsby Road, come in for a coffee or something to eat, and see just what we have to offer.”

Club house catering has got off to a good start with a fish and chip night every Wednesday.

“These are going really well,” said stewardess Janet Parkinson, who heads up the catering, which has received a five-star rating from West Lindsey in the food hygiene rating scheme.

“We have sold out some nights, so it is best to book.”

The function room, and however much of the club house is required, can be booked for private, business or charity functions, too.

“We have a full bar facility and can tailor the catering to whatever is required,” added Janet, who along with steward husband Peter has been at the golf club for 18 years.

To encourage people along to the club, there are a number of events coming up.

A beer festival will be held on Sunday, May 29, with a family day the following Sunday, June 5.

Golf is still a main focus for the club, with more categories of membership available for a more flexible approach, to encourage everyone from beginners to seasoned golfers.

The club’s professionals run a number of courses for all abilities and the driving range, sponsored by Duckworths, is being well used.

Tokens for the driving range can be bought at the club bar, or in town at Lancaster Butchers or the Gift Horse and at the neighbouring racecourse caravan park.
