Prepare for a perfect pantomime season...

Thought all the fun of Christmas was over? Oh no it’s not...

Pantomime season is almost upon us. And our local amateur dramatic groups are gearing up to give their best.

Wales Methodist Panto Players kick off the season on 11th January with their 68th panto Babes in the Wood.

Performed at the Montgomery Theatre, Surrey Street, Sheffield, it promises fun for all the family with dazzling costumes and plenty of audience participation.

It runs Friday 11th, Saturday 12th, Friday 18th and Saturday 19th January 2013. Tickets are £9 adults, £7 concessions, £5 children are available from Jayne on 01909 809757 or 07730 266810.

Next up is Worksop Light Operatic Society whose 2013 panto Aladdin runs from Tuesday 15th - Saturday 19th January. The show will see two of Worksop’s most popular panto stars reunited on the stage of the Soundwave Art of Life Centre (formerly Worksop Regal). Lloyd Hawkins, as Widow Twankey, and Steve Rowan, as Wishee Washee, are back in their familiar mother and son roles as the dame and village idiot after a break of several years. Newcomer Ashley Kilby stars as Aladdin, Deanna Malbon as princess Jasmine, Emma Dexter as the empress Tutti Frutti, and experienced performers such as Graham Berridge as Abanazar.

Performances are 7pm Tuesday to Friday and 7.15pm Saturday. Tickets are £10 full, £8.50 concessions. All Tuesday tickets are £8, £10 for Saturday. Call the box office on 07827 388484.

Lindrick Players take to the stage from Wednesday 16th - Saturday 19th January at Carlton Village Hall, Long Lane.

Knight Fever is a very silly family pantomime set in Arthurian times, with knights, wizards, magic swords, mythical creatures and lot and lots of daft jokes, fun songs and plenty to join in with.

Performances are 7.15pm and 2.15pm on the Saturday. Advance tickets are £5.50 full, £4 concessions. £6.50 / £4.50 on the door. The booking line opens in the new year. Look out for details.

The Lyric Theatre in Dinnington hosts family favourite Dick Whittington and his Cat from Saturday 19th - Saturday 26th January.

Society regulars Samantha Smedley and Isabel Canning return as Dick and Alice and newcomer Maria Bolstridge takes on Tommy the cat. John Green will petrify as King Rat and the laughs come from Ashley Booker as Jack the village idiot and Johnathan Cobb as the Dame. Look carefully and you might even see some gangnam style. Last but certainly not least is Blyth Players’ February outing, Ali Baba. There are songs old and new to sing along to and lots of laughs. Performed at Barnby Memorial Hall, Blyth, from Thursday 14th - Sunday 17th February, performance times are 7.15pm and 2.15pm Saturday and Sunday matinees.
