Review: Great food at the Red Lion Hotel in Todwick

I asked around the office for somewhere I could enjoy a nice meal and my colleague suggested the Red Lion in Todwick.

So the pair of us took a drive out to Todwick.

The Red Lion is easy to find just at the side of the A57.

As well as having a bar where you can enjoy a drink as well as a meal there is also a separate section for the restaurant and the Red Lion also offers accommodation with a separate entrance to the hotel.

As it was relatively early, as we had gone straight from work, we opted to sit in the bar area as it wasn’t overly busy.

We chose a table by a window and then went to order ourselves a drink from the bar.

I went for an apple and raspberry J20 and my colleague enjoyed a glass of Rose wine.

As we started looking over the menu we were spoilt for choice.

I am an avid watcher of the Great British Bake Off and last week it was Pies and Tarts week.

The bakers were asked to make a tower of pies and since watching that episode I have wanted a pork pie.

So to satisfy this craving I decided to order the British Ploughman’s (£8.29) and my colleague went for the Cheese and Smoked Bacon Burger (£8.99) and she asked for sweet potato fries rather than chips.

There was a bit of a wait for our food but we didn’t mind as it meant we could have a good catch up as we don’t really get much of an opportunity to chat while we’re in the office and neither of us were in a rush.

My colleague’s meal arrived first and we were both surprised to see as well as her sweet potato fries they had also brought her chips.

There was a wait between her meal coming and mine but due to the extra chips she kindly offered me some sweet potato fries, so I enjoyed a couple before my meal arrived.

My Ploughmans’s was served on a wooden platter and it came with a pork pie, cheddar cheese, stilton, bloomer bread, honey roast ham, an apple, pickled onion, piccalilli and Old Speckled Hen Ale jelly.

I didn’t know where to start as I was overwhelmed by the amount of food.

The ham was lovely and thickly cut, the apple was crisp and the pork pie was exactly what I was after with beautiful soft pastry.

I am not a fan of Stilton or pickled onions but apart from that there was nothing left on my plate.

My colleague said her burger was delicious and exactly what she had wanted.

As the waiter came to ask us if we fancied a dessert we both agreed that even though we did want one we were too full to order one.

The Red Lion is a lovely country pub with low ceilings making it feel very cosy. I can imagine this to be very popular as the winter nights draw in.

As well as the main menu there is also a Set Menu which offers up to three courses for £9,99.

As we were eating I spotted something twinkling out of the corner of my eye and I was surprised to see a Christmas Tree in the corner - it’s September.

But this was to advertise their Christmas menu and the fact they are taking bookings for either Christmas meals or Christmas parties.
