Scarecrows are a big attraction at Tetford and Salmonby

There were a few '˜extra special' residents on view in Tetford and Salmonby over the Bank Holiday weekend '“ and they certainly made a big impression.

The Tetford and Salmonby Scarecrow Festival returned after a short break and attracted big crowds who took advantage of the largely fine weather on Sunday and Monday.

Many households joined in the fun with scarecrows appearing in front gardens and other locations in the two villages.

As our photographs show, there was even a Viking longboat which appeared to have ‘beached’ on someone’s lawn!

The festival included a 
variety of entertainment and craft stalls and was in aid of St Mary’s roof fund, the village school and other clubs and organisations in the community.

There were refreshments in Hamilton Hall and locally produced ice-cream from Dennett’s and Farmer Brown went down particularly well,

Live music and dancing was staged outside the White Hart pub.

Visitors Irene and Trevor Bailey said the village should feel proud of its efforts.

They said: “We were staying at a B&B in the area, saw the festival organised and thought we’d go along.

“It was a brilliant day and I hope they raise a lot of money.

“It’s great when communities come together for something like this.”
