Showcase of art by female trio

An exhibition showcasing the art practices of '˜Three Local Ladies' opens at Sleaford's Carre Gallery on Monday.

The event, titled Three Local Ladies, features work by Carol Bratley, from Leasingham, and Ann Mackenzie, and Laura-Jane Luff, from Sleaford.

Carol is a member of the Nadin Group and the Lincolnshire Arists’ Society and gained a First Class BA Honours Degree through the Open College of the Arts in her 50s. She said: “I continue to learn about art and get enjoyment from painting and sketching with friends.”

Ann said: “Since a child I loved painting and drawing and intended to make it my career but as often happens marriage and children took over first. Now for the last few years I’ve had time to enjoy it, using oils and acrylics, watercolour and pencil or pen.”

Laura-Jane said: “From a very young age I discovered an ability and love for drawing. This gift was nurtured through college and university where I gained a BA Honours degree in fine art. I draw and paint a variety of genres but specialise in portraiture where I endeavour to capture not just a likeness of the person but to reveal their true character and emotion.”

The exhibition - held in memory of Sleaford artist and photographer Windham Hime - runs until March 12.
