Stargazing event at local forest

THE skies the limit when astronomers descent of Sherwood Pines Forest Park in the New Year.

The Forestry Commission has linked up with local astronomers from the Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society to stage a glittering Nightwatch event in the 3,000 acre beauty spot near Clipstone, on Thursday 19th January 2012, as part of the BBC’s Stargazing Live event.

The wood is a dark oasis thanks to the absence of street lights allowing star gazers to marvel at the sky.

Ranger Karina Thornton said: “The Stargazing Live event aims to encourage more people to experience the wonder of the night sky.”

“At Sherwood we enjoy a darker sky than much of the surrounding area, making celestial objects stand out better. These events are always incredibly popular.”

To join the event you’ll need to book on 01623 822447. The cost is £5 per person and the event starts at 7pm.
