Symphonia unveils its new season

SCHUBERT’S ‘Unfinished’ Symphony and Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony gets a new Hallam Sinfonia season underway at St Mark’s Church, Broomhill on September 24.

The orchestra then decamp for the rest of the season to Ecclesall Parish Church. There, on November 19, its regular guest conductor, Mark Heron, guides the sinfonia through Mozart’s ‘Jupiter’ Symphony and Mahler’s First – its fourth outing in Sheffield this year since May.

Dvorák’s Eighth Symphony is heard on March 17 following Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Cimarosa’s humorous operatic intermezzo Il Maestro di Capella with a baritone/ bass soloist to be announced.

Another rather attractively programmed concert of Delius’ Paris: The Song of a Great City, Elgar’s Sospiri and Holst’s Planets Suite ends the season on June 30.

The sinfonia’s music director Natalia Luis-Bassa is the conductor.

A season ticket is available priced £27, £22.50 (concessions), £15 (students) – this means four concerts for the price of three as individual concert ticket prices are £9 £7.50, £5, with under-18s charged £2.50.
