Veteran TV presenter is latest fan of Louth's award-winning choir

The growing popularity of the award-winning Louth Male Voice Choir has extended to veteran BBC TV ‘Look North’ presenter Peter Levy.

The 70-year-old Levy, who has been the frontman for the ‘Look North’ regional news programme since 2002, has a close connection with Driffield Male Voice Choir in Yorkshire.

And Driffield is one of many organisations that has invited the Louth choir in recent weeks to sing alongside them in joint concerts.

This follows Louth’s notable success at a major competition at Eskdale, Whitby, where it defeated some of the best choirs in the country.

The Driffield choir has invited the Lincolnshire group to sing with it at Beverley Minster in the coming weeks, so to mark the link-up, a special Louth Male Voce Choir mug was handed over to Levy in what was described as “a jovial ceremony”.

The Louth group is benefitting from a recruitment programme it ran last autumn, called Men United In Song, which culminated in a charity concert to raise money for two charities, Prostate Cancer UK and Help For Heroes.

No previous experience was necessary, and a total of 21 men signed up. All performed at the concert and 11 of them have continued, passing their auditions and formally joining the choir.

Alan John, a member of the choir who made the presentation to Levy, said: “We have now built back to approaching 50 members, which is not bad for a small town, and we are always looking for more.

"Remember – singing in a choir is good for posture, breathing, comradeship and mental health.”

The mug advertised the Louth choir’s annual concert, which also featured the Lincolnshire-based Bluestones Big Band and was staged at St James’s Church in the town last Saturday evening.
