Westwoodside: Rock star John Parr to play second date at village hall

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, who has played at some of the biggest stadiums in the world alongside legendary figures such as Tina Turner, Meatloaf and Bryan Adams, put on a one-man show at Westwoodside Village Hall near Doncaster last July as a personal favour to photographer and lifelong friend Phil Callaghan, who lives in the village.

The event turned out to be a sell-out success with fans packing the hall to the rafters – and some even journeying to the village from 100 miles away and beyond.

Now John has agreed to return to Westwoodside on Saturday, 18th January for a repeat performance.

The Doncaster-based rocker, who has sold over 10 million albums in his career so far, admits he’s looking forward to the date.

“It was supposed to be a one-off event as a favour to Phil, but there’s been such a demand for another show that Phil asked if I’d consider coming back to the village again,” said John, best known for his hit St Elmo’s Fire.

“I’ve played massive stadiums such as Sydney Opera House and Madison Square Gardens, but there’s nothing beats playing an intimate little hall, where the audience is there, up close, soaking up the atmosphere.”

“Westwoodside was a real wow last time, and I can’t wait to get back there again.”

Tickets for the show - which charts John’s rise from his early days in Manton to his career working in the Hollywood movie business - are £10 and available from Phil on 01427 752766.

And Phil is urging music fans not to leave it too late.

“My phone was red hot last time round so I think I know what to expect now,” he said.

“Lots of people were ringing me after the last show in the summer asking if I could get John to come back, and everyone seems very excited now the date’s approaching fast. It’s certainly quite a coup for Westwoodside.”
