Narrated by wandering minstrel Alana Dale (Jeannie Raspin), the play sees both sides of the conflict in Sherwood at their wits end.

The scheming Sheriff of Nottingham (Peter Lack) and Prince John (Luke Fletcher), aided by Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Gary Williams) and the Sheriff’s bungling guards Slasher and Crusher (Paul Wood and Lauren Greenhalgh), are forced to resort to ever-increasingly deadly methods against the wily Robin Hood (Luke Neeve) and the Merry Men.

Meanwhile, Robin’s Merry Men seem scarcely able to co-exist due to their clashing personalities!

The story features all the best-known characters, with Laura Barrett playing the lovely Maid Marian, Steve Barnes as the cheerful Little John, Christina Goucher as the put-upon Will Scarlet, Shirley Hill as the very merry Friar Tuck and Nic Pelham as the panicky (yet strangely feminine) Much, the Miller’s Son.

However, the story also features some of the lesser-known Robin Hood characters from the legend, including Robin’s friend Richard of Lea (Julie Cookson), the expert archer Gilbert Whitehand (Nina Poulston) and the emotional Arthur-a-Bland (Jelena Morris) as well as vicious warrior of the Crusades, Abisali the Merciless (Jo Thorpe).

The cast is rounded out with Little John’s wife, the saucy Mrs Little (Sharon Coles), the buffoonish Bishop of Hereford (Lewis Salter) and King Richard (Harrison Reynolds).

Robin Hood on from 24th-26th September at Whitwell Community Centre at 7.15am each night.Tickets priced £6 are on sale now at www.ticketsource.co.uk/wwwwhitwellplayers and from the venue.
