They bring their critically-acclaimed production of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake to the Sheffield stage from Tuesday 8th - Saturday 12th January 2013.
One of the world’s best-known ballets, Swan Lake follows the fate of Prince Siegfried as he falls in love with the beautiful Swan Queen, Odette. Set to a sublime score, this flawless production is a stunning demonstration of the precision, artistry and sheer grace for which Moscow City Ballet is renowned throughout the world.
With a superb orchestra and additional choreography by the distinguished Victor Smirnov-Golovanov, Swan Lake’s soaring climax sees the power of true love conquer the forces of evil.
Moscow City Ballet is currently at its outstanding artistic best - winning new invitations to perform internationally.
Swan Lake is a signature piece of their entire repertoire. The orchestra, choreography, interpretation, beauty and outstanding virtuoso performance win repeatedly rave reviews.
And Tchaikovsky ‘big story ballets’ are the essence of Russian culture - composed, choreographed and premiered in Russia.
Seeing performances by the Moscow City dancers never fails to add that magical ingredient of Russian soul. The ballet garnered a new audience through 2010’s film release Black Swan. In the film, a ballet dancer (Natalie Portman) wins the lead part in Swan Lake and is perfect for the role of the delicate white swan Princess Odette.
But Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the white swan with innocence and grace, and the black swan, who represents guile and sensuality.
Portman’s character slowly loses her mind as she becomes more and more like Odile, the black swan.
Tickets for Swan Lake are on sale now from Sheffield Theatres’ Box Office, priced £18- 34.
