The Witham and District Ladies Probus recently met and Janice Fletcher gave her vote of thanks to Bob Booth who came to give a talk on My Life of Leisure.

He first became interested in amateur dramatics when he helped his aunt doing back-stage work at Altrincham Dramatic Society. He has worked in many places: Gravesend, Woking, Hatfield, Yeovil and Welwyn Garden City as an entertainment manager.

He met many famous entertainers, including Hilda Baker, Ken Dodd, Pam Ayres, Harry Corbett, Julian Fellowes and Jenny Agutter (of Call the Midwife fame).

He is now based in Louth at the Riverhead Theatre, where he is president.

He spoke about the work the committee puts into staging Louth’s productions, from appointing stage managers for individual shows, to designing the scenery.

The group’s next meeting will be on March 29, when Clive Kingswood’s subject will be How the Police Force Used to be.
