Worksop: Singers produce a highly enjoyable evening for everyone

Take a group of energetic singers, talented kids, add into the mix the talents of Nick Challenger, David Burgess and Gillian Banks plus a great band and you have all the ingredients for a great show and this is just what we had when Wales Musical Theatre Group presented Showstoppers at The Acorn Theatre in Worksop.

The youngsters were able to show off in Mary Poppins and even more so in Grease when Brandon Fletcher and Eleanor Smith combined with the senior chorus in Summer Nights. Both were excellent and Brandon almost brought the house down with the number Sandy.

Alison Wade was superb as Mrs Johnston in Blood Brothers, she was able to show off her singing talents in Easy Terms and this was compounded when she was joined by the full company in Tell me It’s not True.

The opening of act two presented Hannah Goodchild with a very professional performance of Diamonds are Forever from the film of the same name, while another great performance came from Toni Lemm and the junior chorus in Getting to Know You and Whistle a Happy Tune from The King and I.

Toni had also stepped in at the last minute in the first half performing If I were a Bell from Guys and Dolls, she again was superb in this number and there was moving number from Hollie Riley and Lucas Brammar when they performed We Kiss in a Shadow.

The company produced a magnificent version of Phantom of The Opera during which Lauren Deakin was able to show off her talents in Wishing you were Somehow Here Again which was breathtaking even when there were some issues with her microphone, while another show stopper came from Hannah Goodchild and Joseph Bairstow in the number All I Ask of You.

Afterwards some well-deserved NODA Awards were presented to both junior and senior members, the whole company ended the evening by singing The Best of Times.
