Reviewing the latest Government advice, the company has now taken the decision to temporarily close its three Butlin's resorts - Minehead, Bognor Regis and Skegness - from April 16 to May 14.

Last month, Bourne Leisure stated that the company knew how disappointing this would be for guests but hoped that they understood that the 'safety and wellbeing of our guests and our teams must be our first priority at this unprecedented time'.

During the closure, Bourne Leisure also confirmed it is doing all it can to support the government, amidst claims prisoners were being sent to resorts to ease a 'jails crisis' caused by coronavirus.

However, a Butlin's company spokesperson said new claims from an anonymous source that 100 lo priority prisoners were staying at the resort in Skegness are untrue.

Last week Bourne Leisure said the company was doing all it can to assist the government and support the nation 'in this time of need'.

Butlin’s Bognor Regis resort was housing 50 vulnerable families and Butlin’s Minehead resort was being used as a distribution centre for food and supplies for the local council.

In an update, the spokesperson said: "The Skegness resort is fully closed to guests and there has been no change in the Government position since our previous statement.

"The only people who are on the site are some of our live on team and then some of our working security guards and groundsmen.”
