Together with wife Lyn, former Merchant Navy captain Ian Norris has ‘raised the anchor’ and handed over to new owners.

Jane Reed has already transformed the Church Lane premises, now known as ‘The School House’.

Jane is well-known in local catering circles after previously running the restaurant at Crowders Garden Centre and Tetford Country Cottages.

And her new venture is something of a family affair as son Alex is the head chef.

Jane said: “We’re into our second month and we are delighted with the way things are working out. We’re twice as busy as we thought we would be.”

The new name refers to the former use of the historic building and Jane has made other changes, from the fixtures and fittings to an extended menu.

Perhaps the biggest change is the fact the premises have an alcohol licence and will open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings , until 10pm. The evening menu features a choice of cold meats and cheeses - along with homemade cakes.

Jane said: “It is something we wanted to try. It’s still a coffee house atmosphere - not a restaurant - and there’s nothing like it in Horncastle.”
