The Farm Kitchen, based at Ewerby Thorpe, has been named ‘Food Champion of the Year 2022’ at the Lincolnshire Education Awards.

The business freshly prepares and cooks over 5,500 school meals for children around the county every day.

The award celebrates those who go above and beyond to support and celebrate local Lincolnshire growers and food producers in a really positive way, naming the The Farm Kitchen overall winner on the night.

Victoria Howe, founder and MD of The Farm Kitchen said the award acknowledges the team’s hard work and dedication.

“It is so important to us that we not only cook healthy, delicious school meals but that we also encourage children to reconnect with where their food comes from,” she said. “We want them to see how farmers grow their food, to celebrate the incredible local produce we have here in Lincolnshire and to learn how to cook fresh from scratch, because we believe this will help them make good food choices now and in the future.”

The business makes sure that every meal they cook is packed full of locally grown vegetables from neighbouring farms and produce from their local fishmonger and bakery, supporting a whole network of Lincolnshire food businesses.

The team also works to inspire young people to take an interest in local food and farming, by giving fun-filled tours of their farm and kitchen, arranging school growing competitions and Lincolnshire-focused themed school dinner days.
