Jo and Ashley Boxall recently re-opened their fishing lakes at Herons Mead in Orby, as Covid-19 restrictions began to be eased

Normally by now, the site in Marsh Road would have been a bustling haven with its owner-occupied static caravans and cafe.

However, during lockdown the Boxalls have been busy with ambitious plans to bring 'something different' to the area - as well as keeping the grounds neat for when they can welcome their customers back in July.

Four generations of the Boxall family have been involved in the caravan industry and Jo and Ashley also run the Sunkist site at Anderby Creek. However this application, which is expected to go before ELDC in July, has them especially excited.

The Boxalls are seeking permission to build a luxurious spa building consisting of a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, snow room, gym, spinning room, treatment rooms, golf simulator, changing rooms, additional cafe seating area and a plant room. The plans also include additional parking areas.

Accommodation will include one pair of semi-detached holiday cottages and one block of five holiday cottages on the site of existing toilet block, which is to be demolished.

Plans also seek change of use of land for the siting of six. log cabins and 33. static caravans.

Mr Boxall said they were disappointed when Orby Parish Council called for the plans to be brought before committee because of current planning policy, which only allows extensions where sites adjoin or are in a town, large or medium village. Orby is classed as a small village.

However, a recent meeting of East Lindsey District Council indicated there could be changes in the policy which could work in the couple's favour

"We've have had a lot of support for the plans locally, so we are hopeful they will be approved," Mr Boxall said. "We are so excited about it - it will be something new for the area.

"The log cabins look amazing - like posh hotel rooms and fitted with hot tubs - and perfect for spa breaks.

"We are just keeping our fingers crossed it goes through - then I don't like letting the grass grow, so I'll be looking to start the development straight away."

A number of jobs would be created if the plans are approved and it is expected the development would benefit the local economy.

Other points raised by Orby Parish Council include the site being located within the Coastal Zone and an increase of traffic through the village.

However, a number of residents from the area have spoken in favour of the plans.

Jessica Jones Address: of Marsh Road, Addlethorpe said: "As a local resident, I believe that the intended plans for the gymnasium facilities, swimming pool etc. will be beneficial for the health and fitness of those that live in the village, as there is a greater incentive to exercise.

"Moreover, people from surrounding areas, and those that have caravans and live here part of the year may also visit which will help boost the local economy.

"I therefore see no issues with the proposed plans as it can only be beneficial for our area. I want to reiterate my support for this development, and hopefully look forward to using these facilities myself."

Lizzie Clarke, of Orby Road, Burgh le Marsh, said: "I support these plans and I think it is wonderful how someone is investing in the local community and I look forward to using these facilities".
