East Lindsey District Council was made aware that the business in Drummond Road was not 'selling essential goods' but was still operating, in spite of government guidance to close.

As a result, the business operator has been fined £60, according to ELDC.

The authority stated: "Despite advice at the time from Lincolnshire Police, they continued to operate.

"As a result, this week we have issued the business with a fixed penalty notice and a prohibition notice.

"Where businesses continue to operate despite being provided with advice and guidance we have no choice but to use our powers to enforce the new regulations and help prevent the spread of coronavirus."

Not all residents agreed with the action when it was posted on social media.

Members of the public pointed out the shop sold food and drink. offered a delivery service and had given a lot to charity.

Coun Danny Brookes said he felt for the business owner. However, he pointed out: "If it's not licensed for food then he shouldn't be selling it."
