Firms back mum's '˜thank you' effort

A range of firms from the town have responded to an appeal from Cristina Warrant, 36, for support towards a summer fair being held in aid of Boston’s Hawthorne Tree Primary School next month.

Cristina has two children at the school, Alex, aged nine, and Olivia, aged six, and is part of the Parent and Friends Association organising the event.

She told the businesses she wanted to say ‘thank you’ to the school for the help it has given her children, particularly Olivia who has sight problems. The school, she explained, has made a number of alterations to its premises in light of Olivia’s challenges.

At the time of writing, Cristina has received sponsorship, raffle items, or other contributions to a combined value of approaching £1,000. She said she was ‘shocked’ by the level of support, saying: “I didn’t expect such a response.”

Donations so far have been £400 in sponsorship from Acorn Taxis; £180 in sponsorship from Padley Builders; £100 in sponsorship from Taylor Made Services; three vouchers, worth almost £130 in total, for a session with a stylist at Salon Alchemy, a ticket for a family-of-four at Boston Bowl, and a £50 voucher from Abarn Workwear, all as raffle prizes; and a discount on meat from H. Dawson and Son’s family butchers for the event. Separately, Brian Fairweather Autos has also given £30 in sponsorship.

“I want to say a ‘big thank you, a ‘massive thank you’ to them,” Cristina said.

Of the difference the school has made for her, Cristina, a call centre operator at Boston Mayflower, said: “It means a lot because I cannot afford to pay for what they have done.”

The fair will take place at Hawthorn Tree Primary School, in Toot Lane, on Saturday, June 25, from 12-4pm.
