Harry Ramsbottoms on Grand Parade has opened three days a week during lockdown offering fish and chips with discounts of up to 50 per cent.

In addition 10 per cent of takings are being donated to the Lumley Lodge Freemasons to support the distribution of meals to local families in need.

Victor Fox, who owns the fish and chip shop, helped the community during the first lockdown, providing free fish and chips to key workers.

With support from the Lumley Lodge Freemasons, of which he is a member, during seven weeks Harry Ramsbottoms supplied .1459 Fish and Chips, 806 Sausage and Chips, 291 Battered burger and Chips, 208 Fish Cake and chips, 112 Fish Finger and Chips, 580 pots of Gravy, and 2100 pots of Mushy Peas.

Offering massive discounts on his menu is the latest way Mr Fox has found to help more local families during this difficult time - with staff offering their services free of charge to deliver the meals.

Mr Fox said: "Due to the success of the lockdown promotion and quite a lot of people relying on this weekend discount I have decided to extend it until the end of February.

"Many people can’t afford fish and chips but at £3.50 they can get a good nutritious meal.

"It is also worth mentioning that the staff involved in this are giving up their time free of charge so hats off to them as well.

"I know this lockdown is very hard for needy people so it’s very rewarding to provide this service, especially for the children."

""We have completed the first six weeks of the three-day openings and have received a lot of thank yous from customers who are short of money," said Victor.

Victor explained the promotion was about saying thank you to a community who have served him well over the years and may be struggling due to the pandemic.

"I've been a businessman here for 55 years and the town has been good to me," he said.

"I'm not looking to make a profit from this - I'm fortunate I can afford to do it.

"But I came from a coal mining family in Sheffield and I have seen what it is like to worry about putting the next meal on the table and paying bills.

"I think you have to experience it to really know how hard it is for families at the moment and that is why I am doing this.

The offer is open to residents in the Skegness area only and will run on Fridays and Saturdays from 11.30am to 7pm and Sundays 12.30pm to 5pm. It will continue until the end of February.
