A number of projects have been announced since East Lindsey District Council first launched its Foreshore Masterplan in February 2018.

The first results of the town's makeover - including a green and cream theme for its street furniture, railings and shelters - are part of an initial £400,000 improvement scheme.

Portfolio Holder for Coastal Economy, Coun Steve Kirk, said: “We’ve made some great progress toward completing a number of projects identified within our Foreshore Masterplan.

"We’ve undertaken a programme of repainting along the entirety of the foreshore, completed a wonderful renovation project in Rockery Gardens and our £400,000 improvement works to Tower Esplanade will soon be finished.

“Over the next year we will continue to look at what other projects identified in the Masterplan could potentially be taken forward."

The Masterplan enables the Council and partners to proactively pursue grant funding opportunities to make improvements to the resort, building on the Foreshore’s designation as a ‘Registered Park and Garden’.

It identifies a number of potential projects and uses for underused areas of the Foreshore, including the bowling greens on South Parade as an outdoor flexible event space; the disused Beach Huts near the Pier as pop-up restaurants and the former Festival Pavilion site as a location for a landmark structure.

The Design Code aims to ensure the Council, businesses and partners, have a set standard to work towards for the Foreshore to create a more consistent and appealing appearance to the street scene.

In September last year it was announced that Skegness is among 100 towns, including Boston, across England that will receive £25 million extra funding from the from the Stronger Towns Fund to boost opportunities and ensure each town looks towards the future with renewed optimism.

Coun Kirk said: "We’ll also be submitting a proposal for a Towns Deal for Skegness, as part of the Towns Fund announced by Government last year.

"I’d like to encourage residents to have their say on how a Town Deal, each worth up to £25 million, could transform the place they call home."
